Industry Facts
Turkey and the United States are by far the world's largest producers of boron. In addition to these two countries, significant amounts are also produced in South America by Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, and in Asia by China.
More than 200 minerals contain boric oxide, but only a few are of commercial importance. Four ominerals make up 90% of the borates used by industry worldwide; they are the sodium borates borax and kernite, the calcium borate colemanite, and the sodium-calcium borate ulexite. Worldwide production exceeds four million metric tons annually.
